Meaning:
Many people are looking forward to the New Year as a time to change. When you ‘turn over a new leaf’ you are making a promise to do something new, or change a bad habit, or improve a skill.
Example:
A: Happy New Year! Do you have any plans for this year?
B: Well, I joined a gym. It’s time for me to turn over a new leaf and get in shape! How about you?
A: Me? I’m going to really study English hard this year. My goal is to travel around America for 2 weeks by myself – no tour guide, no friend, just me! So I plan to study English hard so I can really enjoy it.
