★こちらは、もともとボクシングの試合で負けを認めるときに、タオルをリング上に投げ入れることからきている慣用句です。ボクシングに限らず、負けを認めるとき、何かを諦める際に使われるようになりました。

A: I've been trying to fix this old computer for hours, but nothing is working.
B: Sometimes, it's better to throw in the towel and consider getting a new one. Some problems are just not worth the effort to fix.
