OK, Boomer

2020.11.05

Meaning:

There are different names for people of different generations (see the table below). A ‘Boomer’ is between 55 years old and 75. There is always some tension between different generations. Older people often think younger people are lazy; younger people often think older people don’t understand how the modern world works. In 2019, the phrase ‘Ok, Boomer’ became popular. It basically means, ‘You just don’t understand, old man/woman’. If an older person complains about young people not working enough or getting married etc, the younger person can reply ‘Ok, Boomer.’ This phrase is popular in youtube and TikTok comments. You can even buy ‘Ok Boomer’ t-shirts.

Example:

【If you were born between:】 l 【You are a:】
1997 & 2015 l Gen Z (Generation Z)
1981 & 1996 l Milennial (or ‘Gen Y’)
1965 - 1980 l Gen X
1946 & 1964 l Baby Boomer (or ‘Boomer’)
1928 - 1945 l member of ‘the Silent Generation’
