Meaning:
A Mummy’s Boy (or Mommy’s Boy or Mama’s Boy) is a man who is *too* attached to his mother; a man who is not independent. This is a negative expression, mostly used by angry wives or girlfriends… Examples of ‘Mummy’s Boys’ are adult men who: a) let their mother cook or clean for them, b) always follow their mother’s advice, c) can’t make decisions without checking with their mothers first.
Example:
A: Please don’t wear that shirt. It’s really ugly.
B: It’s fine. Anyway, I have to. Mum bought it and she’ll be sad if I don’t.
A: Oh my God. You’re 30 years old. You can choose your own clothes. Don’t be a Mummy’s Boy.
B: I’m not being a Mummy’s Boy; I’m being thoughtful. You should be glad.
Talking Point(s):
Do you know any Mummy’s Boys? Do you think this should or shouldn’t be a negative expression?
