hypocrite

2018.05.31

Meaning:

A hypocrite is a person who pretends to be ‘good’, but really *isn’t* good. For example, if I tell my son, ‘Don’t eat sugar’, but I eat lots of sugar myself – then I am a hypocrite. The adjective of hypocrite is hypocritical.

Example:

A: Stop gossiping. It’s not kind.
B: You’re such a hypocrite! You gossip all the time!
A: No, I don’t. I just sometimes hear news and I pass it on… to help people…
B: Agh! You told me that your friend was dating her boss! That’s gossip. You’re so hypocritical.

Talking Point(s):

Have you ever said something hypocritical? What was it?
