happy-go-lucky (adjective)

2016.08.03

Meaning:

‘Happy-go-lucky’ means ‘light-hearted, care-free, able to enjoy the moment, not worried about the future’. It is a generally positive word, but it does include the slightly negative nuance of not being careful. A happy-go-lucky person doesn’t worry or plan much; they accept life as it is and they enjoy it.

Example:

A: Susan is so sweet! I know she doesn’t have much money, but she just bought me this beautiful painting for my birthday. I think it was expensive.
B: Yes, she’s very generous.
A: And she’s so much fun to be around. She’s so happy-go-lucky.
B: Yes. I worry for her sometimes! She trusts people too much.
A: Well, I think her happy-go-lucky nature makes people want to be nice to her.
