wuss

2018.05.09

Meaning:

A wuss is a person who is weak, scared and not brave. It has a totally negative nuance. We sometimes use it to push our friends to be braver. For example, ‘Don’t be a wuss! Come on the rollercoaster with me!’ or ‘Stop being a wuss! Ask him on a date!’ The adjective of wuss is wussy. For example, he’s a bit of a wussy guy.

Example:

A: So what do you think of the new waiter, Julie?
B: Um…. She’s a bit of a wuss…
A: Well, maybe she’s just scared of you! She is only new!
B: Yeah, I know. But honestly – I’ve been really gentle with her. And she still jumps every time she sees me. Yesterday I said hello and she dropped a champagne glass. I don’t like working with wussy people.

Talking Point(s):

We’re all wusses sometimes. When was the last time you were a wuss?
