sweet tooth

2018.02.14

Meaning:

After Valentine’s Day in Japan there are always lots of lovely chocolates for sale at a discount. I have a sweet tooth, so I love this time of year. ‘I have a sweet tooth’ simply means ‘I love sweet food’.

Example:

A: Oh my God! How many sugars did you put in your coffee?
B: 5.
A: That’s crazy! You really have a sweet tooth, huh?
B: Yes, I like sugar, but also - I’m Brazilian. In Brazil, it’s not unusual to put 5 sugars in your coffee.
A: Huh. I never put sugar in my coffee. I don’t have a sweet tooth at all. I’d rather eat peanuts and chips and snacks like that.

Talking Point(s):

Do you have a sweet tooth? Would you rather eat sweet food or salty food?
