Name-drop

Meaning:
Sometimes people talk about their famous friends to sound cool and/or important. This is name-dropping. Name-dropping has a negative nuance because it is not modest and sincere. For example, imagine I met Ken Watanabe once. If I tell my friends, ‘Hey! I met Ken Watanabe!’ this is not name-dropping. But if I use Ken Watanabe to sound cool *that* is name-dropping.
Example:
A: I was talking to Sarah yesterday – she’s *such* a name-dropper!
B: What do you mean?
A: Well she was talking about massage. She said, ‘Keisuke recommended this wonderful massage salon to me. He goes there after soccer games.’ I said, ‘Do you mean Keisuke Honda, the famous soccer player???’ And she said, ‘I guess he is famous, but I just think of him as a friend.’
B: Oh wow… Is she really friends with Honda-san?
A: I don’t know. She probably saw him on the street once and now thinks he’s her best friend. Sorry, I shouldn’t gossip about her, but I hate name-dropping.
