Dig Your Own Grave

Meaning:

If you dig your own grave, you do something which will cause problems for yourself in the future. A grave is a place where a dead body is buried, so digging your own grave means that you are harming yourself by your own choices and actions.

Example:

A: You know, by staying awake until 3 am, you’re really digging your own grave.
B: I know. But I can’t stop watching reruns of Seinfeld.
---
A: Well, I’m dead. I accidentally called the boss an idiot.
B: You dug your grave with that one, didn’t you? You might want to start looking for a new job.
