The Before Time

2021.05.26

Meaning:

The Before Time means ‘the time before Covid-19’. It’s an expression that came from the SF drama ‘Star Trek’. In Star Trek, there was a planet filled with only children because a pandemic had killed all the adults. Those children talked about their lives in ‘the before time’ to mean before the adults all died. In 2020 and 2021, some people have started using this expression to talk about life before Covid. For example, ‘Hugging? Oh yes, I remember hugs from the before time.’

Example:

A: Hey, I’m having a party tomorrow night…
B: What? A party? How??
A: Oh, online! Just log in, bring a beer and we’ll have a chat. It’ll be just like the before time…

Talking Point(s):

What do you miss from the before time?
