temperament (noun)

2016.09.28

Meaning:

‘temperament’ means ‘your usual mood’. This word was one of the key words in the recent Presidential debate between Clinton and Trump. Trump argued that Clinton had an angry temperament. Clinton laughed when Trump said this. Then Trump said, ‘I have a much better temperament than she has. I have a winning temperament.’

Example:

A: I’m looking for a dog. What kind should I get? Maybe a poodle?
B: Oh, cute! But I think poodles have nervous temperaments…
A: Really? I’d like a playful dog. What dogs have playful temperaments?
B: Why don’t you get a beagle – like Snoopy. Beagles are very playful.

Talking Point(s):

How would you describe your temperament? How would other people describe your temperament?
