salty

2020.04.15

Meaning:

Meaning: Salty means ‘tastes like salt’. Recently, young people also use it as slang. The slang ‘salty’ means ‘in a bad mood; usually because he/she didn’t get what he/she wants’. It has a nuance of ‘childish’ too. Taste words often describe people’s attitudes. ‘Sweet’ means ‘kind’, but most other taste-words are negative: ‘sour’ (miserable), ‘bitter’ (holding onto an angry feeling) and ‘salty’ (in a childish bad mood).

Example:

1.
A: Ugh. I hate that guy. Look at him, with his shiny hair and his muscles…
B: Hahaha. You’re just salty because he’s dating the girl you like, aren’t you?

2.
A: Why are you so salty?
B: I wanted to watch the new Marvel movie yesterday but the person in front of me bought the very last ticket.

Talking Point(s):

When is the last time that you got salty?
