no-brainer (noun; casual expression)

2016.07.13

Meaning:

A ‘no-brainer’ is a ‘very easy decision’. When decisions are very easy, we do not need to think (ie use our brains). So, for example, imagine I am on a diet. Should I have a hamburger or a light salad for lunch? It’s a no-brainer! You can use this expression often at work: eg ‘We can save a lot of money if we use a different supplier; I think it’s a no-brainer. Let’s do that.’ ‘No-brainer’ is a positive expression.

Example:

A: I think we should have curry for dinner tonight. We have a lot of old vegetables in the fridge.
B: That seems like a no-brainer. Ok. Curry it is!

Talking Point(s):

Is salad vs hamburger a no-brainer for you? Or is it a difficult decision?
