Make sense? Makes sense!

2020.04.22

Meaning:

‘Make sense?’ means ‘Do you understand? + Is it logical?’The long form is,‘Does it make sense?’ Usually, we answer, ‘Yep, makes sense.’ Or ‘Yes, it makes sense.’ This means, ‘Yes, I understand it and it is logical.’ But if you don’t understand (or if you think the idea isn’t logical), you can also say ‘That doesn’t make sense.’ If you use the short form, ‘Make sense?’ your voice should go up on ‘sense’ to show you are making a question. And of course intonation is very important as well.

Example:

A: What’s the difference between ‘boring’ and ‘bored’?
B: Imagine a movie. ’The movie is boring’. ‘I am bored.’ ‘bored’ describes my feelings. ‘boring’ describes the movie.
A: Ah…
B: Make sense?
A: Makes sense!
