Let’s call it a day

2016.04.07

Meaning:

‘Let’s call it a day’ means ‘Let’s stop’. We can use it at the end of the working day, if we want to say ‘Let’s all stop working now.’ We can also use it if we want to stop a relationship – we can use it to signal stopping any shared activity. For example, ‘My boyfriend and I fought too much. So yesterday we decided to call it a day. We broke up.’

Example:

A: Ok, everyone. Thanks for your hard work. Let’s call it a day and continue this project tomorrow.
B: Thanks boss!

Talking Point(s):

Can you feel a difference in nuance to this expression and the Japanese expression ‘otsukaresama deshita’? What is the difference?
