jaded
2017.05.13
Meaning:
‘jaded’ means ‘to have lost all positive feeling about something’. It has a similar meaning to ‘tired’ or ‘bored’, but it has a more negative nuance. A jaded person has experienced too much – so they cannot enjoy new experiences any more. For example, imagine a rich person who cannot get excited about expensive champagne or luxury holidays – that person is jaded.
Example:
①
A: I’ve introduced lots of lovely women to Tony, but he doesn’t seem interested in anyone. What’s his problem?
B: I think he’s a bit jaded. I think he just needs some time alone before a new relationship.
②
B: I’m tired of lobster and champagne. I wish I could eat an onigiri.
A: Listen to you! So jaded!
Talking Point(s):
Why do people become jaded, do you think?
