How to say $1000
2021.08.26
Meaning:
$1000 = One thousand dollars. $10000 = ten thousand dollars. You probably already
know this. But did you know that we also call $1000 'a grand'? This is slang from over
100 years ago. $1000 was 'grand' (big) then. Today native speakers often still call $1000 a
grand, and we sometimes even shorten it to 'g'. So $10000 is '10 grand' or '10 g'.
Example:
A: Nice car! How much was it?
B: About 50g.
A: Fifty grand?! Fifty thousand dollars?!!! Are you crazy? You'll be paying that off
forever!
